    UVA Wise Football

Does anybody know who the head coach is for the UVA Wise Football team? Isn't that where Brad Robbins is going to play this season?

    Re: UVA Wise Football

Actually I was just curious who the main coaches was. Doesn't he have a kid that is going to PV as a freshman this year? I think his name is Gill or something like that. That is pretty awesome isn't it. Coach Robbins has a son playing for the Lusk man and the Lusk man has a son playing for coach Robbins. I guess that will work out for both of them, haha. Re: UVA Wise Football

I wouldn't doubt it. Someone told me that Mr. Lusk used to play for Phil when he was young and that they only moved here so his son could play for Phil as well. I think they are hanging out buddies too so I'm sure it will help Mr. Lusk's son get playing time, whether he is good or not. Somebody said that Kenny Burke was going to be a great QB for PV when Cedric Mitchell is gone. But I guess that depends on the politics of it all.

    Re: UVA Wise Football

Why would Phil Robbins jepordize having a bad season just because he could play a friends son?? I mean just like VThokie said if the Lusk boy is good and deserves playing time he will get it

i would just like to say something ive wanted to for a long time.

for years, there have been conspiracy theories involving Coach Robbins. X plays b/c of his daddy, Y plays b/c his family has money, Z sits b/c Phil didnt like his brother, etc, etc, etc.

The people that suggest these theories, in my opinion and from my experience, couldnt be any furthur from the truth. I played for coach robbins for 4 yrs, 2 of them as a starter.

Coach Robbins is one of the MOST COMPETETIVE people i have ever met. I believe he would never compromise the chances of his team winning b/c of some petty dispute or longtime friendship. Coach Robbins wants to win, and i cannot fathom a situation in which a better player would sit b/c of some personal history, thus endangering the teams chance of winning. Coach wants to win too much to do that.

Vthokie22 is correct. Talent decides. Perhaps if two players are equal, then maybe such things that have been suggested on this thread would come into play. but how often, in small schools, are two players equal? factoring in skill, work ethic, dedication, etc, almost never.

i knew it was only a matter of time before someone made the connection and said that one would play for the other b/c of their dads, etc, whatever. Pure bunk.

And the other thing. "somebody said" has gotta be the weakest hearsay ever. some people, when i was young, might have said i shoulda been quarterback instead of reciever. and we woulda been about .500. The bottom line is that Coach watches these kids from teh 2 or 3rd grade on coming up in the P-nut league, so i would say he knows them better than anyone. I attribute that feeder program to most of PV's success.

Finally, Brad is one of the hardest working people i know. I know this b/c ive seen it, not b/c 'somebody said.' if he gets a shot this yr for wise, or in the future, its because he absolutly busts his tail, not b/c his coach's son plays for his dad.

Im sorry if that seemed a bit harsh, but i feel it needed to be said.
